Volunteer with wildlife in Thailand

Wildlife Rehabilitation in Thailand.

Thailandthailand

Wild animals in Thailand are experiencing pressures from many sources – loss of habitat, hunting, the illegal pet trade, use of animals by the entertainment industry, and cruelty and abuse by people. In an attempt to help native wildlife this organization runs several projects including hands-on wildlife rescue, medical care, wildlife rehabilitation, community education and research. Built on temple land, the centre provides the animals with a huge plot of forest to shelter in during their rehabilitation, or for some to live in for the rest of their lives. At the centre you can find many species of macaques, gibbons, civets, loris, small and big cats (leopards and tigers), bears, crocodiles and birds. The animals receive medical treatment when necessary and are nursed back to health with the goal always being to release them into the wild if possible. Animals that cannot be reintroduced to the wild can spend the rest of their lives in a sanctuary, enjoying conditions that are as close to their natural environment as possible.

Other time is spent preparing enrichments for the animals, giving tours to visiting tourists and assisting development of the education centre. Depending upon the number of volunteers and ongoing activities at the time, there will also be work in connection with building/upgrading enclosures which usually involves digging and painting. Medical volunteer activities will depend on the skills of the volunteer.

This is an ongoing program with operations every day of the year. There are no specific start or end dates, but the Placement Partner requests your first day be a Sunday. We work with you and your schedule so you can serve this community and help animals when you are available.

Classification of Placement: Medical: Entry with occasional opportunities for Advanced. Standard: Entry, Advanced and Specialized.

All classifications of volunteers are needed by this Placement partner and we encourage you to apply no matter your skill or experience level. However, if you are looking for a Placement to use your specific skills, the professionals who would be most beneficial to this placement would be volunteers with experience in: veterinary medicine (however, placements that take place only in the hospital setting are very rare), education and construction.
